Hello! Today we'll be playing along to a blues harmonica backing track. Playing to jam tracks helps you develop your soloing ideas, hone your technique and teaches you to really use your ears. Luckily, jamming is also great fun so you will actually want to make it a part of your daily practice!

This is a 12 bar blues jam track in a 'boogie' groove, in the key of E. 'Boogie' means it's a fast, energetic swinging rhythm - great for soloing! You can use a harmonica in the key of A for this track; this means you'll be playing in 2nd position (but don't worry if that means nothing to you - just remember to listen and have fun).

It's very useful to understand the chord structure of the jam track you are using. This track is a standard 12 bar blues with a 'turnaround' - this means it goes to the V chord for the last couple of beats of the final bar. Below is the structure for this jam track.
